What is a dental filling?
When a patient has a cavity, Dr. Charles Anonye may recommend a dental filling in York, Pennsylvania. Our dentist will remove the decayed area of the tooth, clean the tooth thoroughly, and fill the area with the dental filling material. At Heritage Dental, we use composite dental fillings. This filling material is tooth colored and very aesthetic.
How is a dental filling placed?
Our dentist will first use a drill, air abrasion instrument, or a laser to remove the decayed area of the tooth. The area is probed and tested to ensure that all of the decay has been removed. The area is then cleaned of bacteria and debris. Our dentist will then place the dental filling. Composite dental fillings are placed in layers. As each layer is placed, our dentist will cure or harden it with a curing light. When all of the layers are in place, our dentist will shape the material to the ideal result. Any extra material is trimmed off and the final dental filling is polished to match the sheen of your natural teeth.
